Crafting Participatory Performance Workshop
Time & Location
About the event
Audiences inherently participate in a performance. How can we, as creators, consider, challenge, and shape their role to create more engaging and meaningful performance experiences for our audiences? “Crafting Participatory Performance” will be an active exploration into that question. After starting with a continuously moving warm up to get our creativity flowing, we will try out preexisting scores as well as generating new ones. We will experience scores from both the audience and performer roles and consider the joys and challenges of creating and presenting participatory work.
Molly Hess is a Brooklyn based choreographer who frequently utilizes participatory performance methods for audiences of all ages in traditional and non-traditional spaces. During a performance, she opens doors inviting audiences to participate however they feel comfortable. “Power-Crafting” if frequently present in her work. Which is when audiences participate in the performance through a brief and usually collaborative creative act. These creations affect and reflect the experience we have has a whole group.
